G.U.R.L.S. ROCK GIRLS TAKE ACTION.

Supports Scholarships. Supports Dreams.

By now many are familiar with the national outcry last year against JCPenney for the demeaning and inappropriate message to girls on their sweatshirt that read: "I'm too pretty to do homework, so my brother has to do it for me."

Numerous petitions have launched telling retailers to stop producing merchandise that is demeaning and devaluing to girls. Some retailers have discontinued production and issued an apology.

However, a group of girls from the G.U.R.L.S. Rock Leadership program, taking a lesson from the Civil Rights movement, say an apology is not enough. Discontinuing a negative is not the same as implementing a positive. A promise to stop doing that, which never should have been done, is an empty promise.

Do Something! Some participants from the G.U.R.L.S. Rock Leadership Program are taking on a campaign and drive to produce positive messages and invest in our girl community with positive message merchandise.

Their message: It is a Respect Thing!
We at G.U.R.L.S. Rock believe in supporting our girls to be independent thinkers and game changers to remedy and create solutions to critical issues they care about. Girls need to know that they have the power to not just stop a wrong from occurring, but to participate in creative development of solutions. Complaining about a problem is one thing, taking action to lead change and solution is a higher level of critical thinking and core to being a global leader.
Let's congratulate and support our girls as critical multi-step thinkers. They identified a problem, participated in thoughtful discussion and analysis and then came to a specific recommendation and a solution, and boldly took immediate action to implement the plan.
Now that’s girl power!
Now it is our duty to support our girls.
So we created a mission and line of products, which deliver the message:
Design and promote positive message merchandise. An apology is not a remedy or a solution to the problem. Cure the problem. Our girls as future leaders require that we do something to promote and support positive messages to girls. They want a line of merchandise that supports ideas such as “Respect a Girl” and “Girls Deserve Better.” They further demand a line of products that respectfully address girls of color as future global leaders.
 Vote for our girls!
Thanks!

“The Evolution of Brilliance,” a bridge to charity

Dr. Raye Mitchell demonstrates that leading women in America have much in common with girls from 8 – 18 years old. Mitchell placed words of self-respect and success from notable female role models, past and present, into the inspiring anthology. The Evolution of Brilliance: Voices Celebrating the Importance of Women (ISBN: 0-97-86658-2-1) offers refreshing views of life and the numerous roles of women in it. To extend the connection with girls even further, proceeds from the sales of this anthology support New Reality Foundation’s G.U.R.L.S. Rock Leadership Program.
