 G.U.R.L.S. Rock™ Hosts Atlanta 2011 Leadership Summit

The Summit Focuses on Girls of Color as Future Global Leaders.

Ann Fudge Ret. CEO and Geri Thomas Senior VP of Bank of America featured speakers.

ATLANTA – The G.U.R.L.S. Rock Leadership Summit, an invitation-only event for girls of color ages 12 and up, has unveiled an impressive lineup of speakers for this year’s conference. This includes featured speakers Ms. Ann Fudge, retired and former chairman and chief executive officer of Young & Rubican Brands, a global marketing and media company, and Ms. Geri Thomas, senior vice president, global diversity and inclusion executive and Georgia market president at Bank of America

The July 13 event will draw girls from diverse backgrounds to learn success strategies from inspiring women in power and will be held at the World of Coca Cola Bottle Cap Suite in Atlanta. Speakers include Geri Thomas, the senior vice president of Global Diversity and Inclusion and Georgia State president for at Bank of America and Fudge.

“We are changing the game and changing the conversation,” said Dr. Raye Mitchell, speaker and summit founder. “We want to embed the notions that girls of color are important and pivotal as key players in the next generation of global leaders. We want to reconfigure the image of girls of color and neutralize the negative stereotypes to show a full range of success.”

The goal of the summit is to prepare young women as the next generation of global leaders. The difference between this program and others made for girls is the positive focus on helping participants visualize and prepare to be global leaders.

“The changing face of America and the global community requires more diverse and adaptable leaders of greater diversity,” Mitchell said. Girls of color are untapped global assets and we need to invest in them, believe in the future of our girls and address the need to invest in the ability to dream big. Many programs focus on interventions and repair. We focus on investment in leaders, because we are proactive.”

G.U.R.L.S. Rock Leadership Summit is a part of the Making a New Reality Foundation, founded by Mitchell. She launched G.U.R.L.S. Rock in 2010 in the San Francisco/Bay Area. Mitchell is a Harvard Law School graduate and a recipient of the prestigious Jefferson Award for Public Service.

Community outreach partners include the W.E.B. Dubois Society, the Maynard Jackson Youth Foundation, the Andrew and Walter Young Family YMCA of Atlanta, the NAACP Atlanta Branch, and Dr. Jane Smith of the Leads Program at Spelman College. Venue is sponsored by The Coca-Cola Company and Ingrid Saunders Jones, senior vice president of Global Community Connections for The Coca-Cola Company and Chairperson of The Coca Cola Foundation. “The Evolution of Brilliance,” a bridge to charity

Dr. Raye Mitchell demonstrates that leading women in America have much in common with girls from 8 – 18 years old. Mitchell placed words of self-respect and success from notable female role models, past and present, into the inspiring anthology. The Evolution of Brilliance: Voices Celebrating the Importance of Women (ISBN: 0-97-86658-2-1) offers refreshing views of life and the numerous roles of women in it. To extend the connection with girls even further, proceeds from the sales of this anthology support New Reality Foundation’s G.U.R.L.S. Rock Leadership Program.
